It seems to me that love today is a little overated. I'll admit, I'm 14 years old, but even for us, it's nothing but drama. It could be hormones, but it's annoying. Someone's dating this girl. Or I like my bf's best friend. Is it the same for adults too, just a little more psychotic? I'm curious.

I agree with lura89---you're far too young to be jaded about something like love, and I suspect this is because you are using the word love incorrectly. "Love" is not the same as just having a crush on someone, nor is it even remotely the same as dating someone. That's not to say that love and crushes and love and dating can't overlap. But in my experience with early-teen relationships, they rarely coincide. Love is such a deep, heartfelt emotion. It's not just giggling and blushing when the guy you like walks into the room. It's a profound caring for the other person. You care for their well-being just as much, and oftentimes more, than your care for your own. Middle-school/high-school drama has little to do with the real thing.

I do not mean to imply in any way, shape, or form that love is simpler than crushes and so forth; in fact, it is much, much harder than playing the dating game. But a thousand times more rewarding. :-)

Finally, all of this is not to say that you can't find love as a teenager. High school relationships can be wonderful too. However, just realize that there is definitely a difference between love and obsession, crushing, or dating. Drama is basically a form of enterainment more than anything else, I think... :-D

Good luck!

Underneath it all, it's the same. But as more people become 'solidly' attached, things will settle down. The best thing for your personal world is to find the best one for you and stick with it.

At your age, out-going people are overly rambunkious and the shy ones are often far too self-conscious. It's a very tough time to have anything lasting. That's why adults will refer to it as puppy love---none of it is anything you should get too wrapped up in--have fun and try very hard to keep everything positive.

I think you are wrong. I think "love" is thrown around a lot more these days when people care for someone. I've told one person in my entire life that "I loved them," and looking back on it, it wasn't love. I think people need to chill on using that word so much, and save it for someone they truly care about. Especially at 14 years old.

The older you get, the less drama-filled the whole experience becomes. Eventually you just want to settle down with someone who doesn't piss you off.

I agree with the last couple of answers. It's not really "love" that you're dealing with in middle school, generally. So don't worry about it. ;) Things get better as you get older...

You are too young to be questioning love. YOu don't even know what it is. Wait til you grow up before you become so jaded.

Yup, its the same for adults. It gets worser as you get older. It never goes away until you're dead. I know, very sad.

.I don't think that love is overrated. Sex and marriage are overrated. But love is as good as you expect it to be.
