It depends on who owns the mail boxes. I have lived at 2 places that had sets of mail boxes that look just like all the others that say USPS on them, but when I needed a replacement key I found out from USPS that they were owned and maintained by the apartment complex.

Call the USPS at 800-275-8777. Tell them you need a new key for your mail box and ask them if they own the mailbox. You will need a signed copy of your rental agreement and photo i.d.
