This is strictly from personal experience:
For years and years, I never had any dental work done. Not because I didn't go--but because I only went for a cleaning & never had any problems with my teeth! I was lucky!
A few years ago, I got my first cavity & it was a horrible experience for me, at 30 years old! I was told then that my wisdom teeth had to come out.
I heard sooo many horror stories about the things that 'could' happen, I delayed my surgery for months--until the pain was so bad in my mouth I HAD to get the teeth out. I figured nothing could be worse than the pain I was experiencing- so it couldn't be THAT bad to have them removed.
And it wasn't.
I should have done it months before, but I was so scared and heard so many bad things, I put it off longer than necessary.
Go to a dentist you trust. Ask lots of questions. Make sure you follow ALL their instructions! Take your medications like you are told.
I can't say it was a wonderful experience--obviously! There was some discomfort for a day or so, some twinging where the stitches were. It was horrible not to be able to eat the first day or two (lol) but I kept up on my meds and rested--and it wasn't bad at all. I got a lot of TLC from my boyfriend and my son....they brought me breakfast in bed (chocolate milk lol)!
Just remember this: for every horror story you hear about dentists/dental visits/procedures - there are a thousand that go perfectly fine with no trouble or pain. Don't be afraid, and if you have concerns, tell them to your dentist/assistant. Chances are, you aren't the only one that's had the same questions and concerns, and they are more than prepared to help you in any way.
Good luck!

I had mine removed with just nitrous and local. I didn't feel anything but pressure during the actual procedure. Just try not to watch what the surgeon is doing. It may feel a little weird if he has to pull the tooth from under your jaw if they are impacted. The pain is honestly the worst when everything wears off. But that's why they give you painkillers, so use them. It's really not that bad, don't psych yourself out over it. Good luck ^_^

Yes its painful, but after about two weeks you are in good shape. Just think of how uncomfortable you are right now! You won't have that bothering you any more. Mine was partially impacted which means that the tooth was not all the way in yet and they had to go uncover it and break the tooth to get it out. That hurt, even with all the medication they gave me. It does bleed quite a bit, but they give you gauze for that. It will stop bleeding usually after the first day or so.

YES!! I had all 4 done at once about 2 months ago. I had one cut out and the other 3 pulled. I don't know what they do to your mouth when you are under but your whole face hurts for awhile. My jaw hurt for a week or so. The 3 that were pulled healed and did not hurt as bad as the one they cut out and that was the one that I got dry socket in, and that sucks. It is different for everyone but for me it did hurt and I can handle pain. I did not bleed alot

I did not bleed but a little tiny bit on some gauze, it was more painful the next day when all the numbness wore off, I had to take some Percocet but not for long. So for me it was very painful but everybody is different.

I had a 4 done he same day. Doc gave me enough Novocaine hat it didn't hurt while he was working, jaw just got stiff from keeping my mouth open for that long. I didn't have much bleeding. It was tough to eat for a few days, but I was fine in a week.

Yes, no way around it. One of mine had no come thru yet and the other had, I was 23 yrs old at the time. However, I opted to go to an oral surgeon and have general anesthesia, cost an extra $150.00 but it was worth it ( he also injected novacaine just before i woke up and also a novacaine plug, looks like piece of rice that the put in the socket) Once that wore off , OUCH. It hurt the worst for the first 24 hours, then started to subside, it was 48 hours before it was tolerable. I did get a script for pain meds. Yes , they did bleed, had cotton in my sockets to prevent that yucky tasting blood from going down my throat, i rinsed my mouth a lot with warm water. Hopefully you will not get what is called a dry socket, have never had one, but those have had were in agony. You need to talk to the dentist about options, if he does not provide pain meds or take the extra steps afterward to keep the pain down a little longer, then find another one.

It is. Just make sure you take good care of your sutures when it's done. Don't get the 'dry socket'!
