Try Amtrak. You can get round trip tickets from Philly to New York for $45 in March. Penn Station is located in Manhattan as well, so you'll be in the area where you want to arrive.

I've often taken this route and it'simple on Amtrak and cheap. Direct to Penn Station in Manhattan, close to the Theatre district.

Good luck! Rob

There are actually two options. The second of the two is much more confusing and I think more time consuming, but I think you save a lot of money. The first one, is hop on Amtrak and your there in an hour or so, not sure of the price though. Second is take the SEPTA to Trenton, then take New Jersey Transit to NY Penn. You save money that way, I'm not sure how much though.

Use AMTRAK. Flying would land you in Queens -- an expensive taxi ride to Manhattan. The train will be faster and will drop you off probably a short walk from your hotel.

if you don't want to take amtrak because of cost, take SEPTA'S R7 line to Trenton, then transfer to NJ Transit NEC (northeast corridor) line to penn station in midtown- connections are available to the NYC subway 1 2 3, and A C E trains, although if you are staying near times square take the 1 2 or 3 train

Flying would be the better way to get here. Get to the airport and have someone pick you up ar take a taxi , but it would be easier to fly, in my opinion.

I would say Acela Express is the way to go. However, it is very, very expensive. It would actually be cheaper to fly from Philadelphia to NYC.
