I had berber and really didn't like it but is it good for high traffic areas... if not what is a good carpet that would last a while??

You could try carpet squares in a common colour, they are cheap and can be replaced if necessary.

I have no Children,but 2 Dogs.I use the same Carpet like the have in Offices,its real tough,and you can get them in nice Colours to.Its also easy to clean them,and Dog hairs wont stay in them.If Children spill somethings,its no big Deal.Go to the Carpet Store and see.

a very neutral color that wont show the traffic pattern, like a darker brown, gray, darker/medium blue, or maybe something with a pattern...
they slide way too easy on a wood floor, but it is a good solution if you have a soft landing spot on the end of the runway...

If you can live with Berber, do it. Otherwise go for wood flooring...that oughta outlast the kids abuse! Good luck!

THE BEST THING 4 U 2 DO IS TRAIN THEM IN THE KITCHEN AT THE TABLE SO U WANT HAVE 2 CONSISTANTLY CLEAN UP EVERY ROOM. PLANT THE SEED AND WATCH IT GROW. AND NO IT ISN'T EZ BUT U CAN AT LEAST FIX UP UR HOUSE LIKE U WANT 2. GOOD LUCK....
