It can be bad for you. The human brain isn't fully developed and more damage is done. I'm a freshman in college, and about 86% of the student body drinks, which is surprisingly low. My friends college is 97% . Underage drinkin is inevitable wether it is done at 16 or 18. I drink and I drank during high school. The key is to be reallyyyy careful. I'm dead serious. once you get feelin good, stop. and trust me.....theres plenty of drinkin once you get to college. Lookin back on it, it was kinda silly. We did a loota stupid things to get alcohol and did a lot of silly things to not get caught. In college, alcohol so easy to get. Theres party's everywhere. You can avoid it. It wont be forced upon you. And although RA's and public safety can be a *****, its so easy to get way with it. I have walked past my RA several times drunk of my ***. I have know certain RAs to just be lke...okay...keep it down. My advice to your friends? take it easy. drink and be merry, but don't overdue it. its too risky. get a little drunk. Don't get black outs. and preferably....drink for the buzz. just do it to have a little fun. Don't try to prove you selves. And trust me.....college will bring some pretttyy crazy days!!

I'm not going to tell it's "bad" - you probably shouldn't drink if you are underage, but I did it, and I turned out okay... The teenage body is both delicate and resilient - if you drink in moderation, you should be alright.

The only real problem is that teenager's brains are still finalizing their development. This means that drinking too much can cause problems in brain development (its not like you will become "stupid" or anything). You won't hurt your brain, per se. The real risk is that, because the brain is still making new connections, it is easier to become dependent on alcohol at that age. New connections can be more susceptible to the "pleasant" effects of alcohol, and while it makes being drunk fun, it also means that these connections are altered to be more reactive to alcohol (this is why people say booze kills brain cells [it doesn't really, it just changes the way the connections of the brain work]), which can lead to addiction if too many of these connections are created and then fed.... it can start a cycle of wanting to drink, drinking, wanting to drink more, drinking more, etc... which can lead to addiction and other health problems. Too much alcohol is very unhealthy.

In short, drink in moderation, and it should be okay... a few beers really is enough. Trust me, it is way more fun to have a few beers and be coherent than it is to chug a bottle of vodka and puke all night... A moderate amount of alcohol has been shown to have health benefits (like one or two drinks per day). But in teenagers, this is not necessarily the case. Just take it easy, and you'll be fine.

Every parent must think through how best to introduce their children to the pleasures and pitfalls of alcohol consumption. It is important that children are given accurate and balanced advice about alcohol.
We are aware of the power of example, and it has been demonstrated that if children are introduced to wine, cider or beer, in the company of family or friends at home, where it is enjoyed sensibly in a convivial atmosphere, later problems can be avoided. The philosophy of such an approach, is that if your child is allowed a taste of wine, mixed with water, the idea of 'taboo' and alcohol being a forbidden fruit are removed and the child learns to enjoy the pleasures of drinking lightly, by example and without excess. It helps avoid children experimenting with alcohol without supervision in secrecy.

Kids don't just drink they binge, this has resulted in a massive increase in the number of children admitted to hospital with liver disease The last figures given showed girls as young as 12 and boys as young as 9 were presenting with this liver disease, which if untreated is fatal.
PLEASE if you drink don't binge or get drunk
