There are basically only two kinds of equipment in a substation
1. Transformers which take the high voltage coming in over long distance transmission lines and change it down to street delivery voltages, and
2. Heavy duty safety switches that disconnect the transformers in the event of overload, these usually having a method to manually disconnect for service or emergency use.
