No. Folks who join the military, do it to protect the country they love. They made a choice to join, and can get out of it, through whatever means they choose. They are not forced, or made to join. Common sense would tell you that.

Having served in the military in my opinion; no. But if you look at the definition of the word culture it it includes "shared beliefs and values of the group". With that definition the Republican nd Democratic parties are cults. All religious groups are cults. The Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are cults... And how many time have you heard corporations talk about a corporate culture? A cult by any other name.

Really need a succinct definition for the word cult.

so far as "Christian-run communities" who're committed to monitoring cults are in contact, what supplies them the main appropriate to decide on who's or isn't a cult? basically, in case you do no longer settle for the doctrines that they do, they vilify you with a label designed to scare others away. That way they shop their very own club. Sociologists and psychologists do no longer define JWs or Mormons as cults. Cults have very extreme practices like depriving individuals of nutrients and sleep. They persist with a residing chief and individuals habit their conferences is secrecy and stay different than for society. using the interest cult is a derogatory positioned-down and non secular human beings throw that notice around greater usually than atheists and could feel embarrassment approximately themselves for it.

Cult society? Wtf who would say that. The military is a few good men who have taken it upon themselves to make it their jobs to protect the united states in times of war and peace. There are no satanic rituals, no specific religiouse affiliation, no secret societys. Only a chain of command, a uniform, a gun, and pride.

Anyone who says something so uninformed about the military should join and see what a great thing it really is.

Obviously, "most" people do not claim the military is a cult. That is just plain silly.

The military is composed of patriots who volunteer for service to their country. They come from all walks of life, and are your neighbors, your co-workers, your friends, and your relatives.

I don't think so. People join the Military to protect the country they love. They are willing to die for it they love the country and its freedoms so much. To me a cult protects only one person ex. Ted Manson or only furthers one person ex. the Moonies.

no but it is a way for young people to realize responsiblity, to become productive young men and women in a society that seems to think everyone owes you something for free. for some military people as with any other profession it is a job. for lots of others especially the ones who tend to retire it is a way of life.

I have a unique perception on this and I know it wont be popular but I will say it anyway....

Yes, the Military is a cult. At least when it comes to dealing with military children and spouses in my own opinion. Why?

According to professor Timothy Miller from the University of Kansas, in his 2003 Religious Movements in the United States, during the controversies over the new religious movements in the 1960s, the term "cult" came to mean something sinister, generally used to describe a movement that was at least potentially destructive to its members or to society, or that took advantage of its members and engaged in unethical practices

My experience with the U.S. Army-

1. when our daughter tried to commit suicide because of her daddy leaving - was told, "oh they all do that, my son always bashes his head against a wall until he passes out for the first 2 weeks of his daddys deployement, but dont worry, its normal and you will get used to it"

IN WHAT PERSONS MIND IS SHOULD THIS BEHAVIOR IN CHILDREN BE CONSIDERED NORMAL?

2. After my mom died, my dad died, my brother was hospitalized and we were shipped over to Germany and having twins where only one survived all in the same year, was told to "suck it up so my husand could do his job over in Afghanistan".

IN WHAT SANE RATIONAL HUMAN BEING COULD YOU BELIEVE THAT ANYONE COULD SURVIVE THAT WITHOUT A BREAKDOWN?

3. Everyone tells you, "you cant think IF he comes back, you have to keep making yourself believe WHEN he comes back" ... yet you have to go to another funeral of another solider who died where they are shipping your husband.

Telling you things are normal when they clearly arent, telling you essentially that you have to brainwash yourself to get through it, that you should only believe news from them and no other source, these all smack of cult behavior to me.

What do religious cults do? They take away all power of choice... so does the military. They convince their people that only they are telling the truth... so does the military. They tell people certain things are normal (like sex for forgiveness ect) are normal, when they are not... (children beating themselves into bloody blackouts) again like the military. They convince their members that they will not survive without the cult, ask anyone who has tried to leave the military gets told -" oh you will be back stuck at mcdonalds" " if you stay you will get so much more out of life" "if you leave now you are a coward and a quitter"

I will try to say, I mean no disrespect to anyone serving, I know you are serving what you believe to be an honorable mission but I will forever believe that soliders are people that the govt has taken advantage of and brainwashed. You were told that they would give you skills that would help you earn more money once you get out - yet everyone in the outside world knows that all the stuff in the military is outdated so it has no practical application to civilian jobs. They tell you that the military takes care of families - they dont- they break them apart. They tell you that they will give you thousands of dollars to go to college - yet they deploy you so much that you can never go or by the time all your deployments are done you are too old or too broken to try to go back to college. They tell you that you have job security - yes, but you traded it for life security. I dont think its fair that so many of our youth join believing the b.s. that recruiters give them on how great it is ... They say you will travel and see the world - however they dont tell you that the only time you will actually have off to see the world is with an m16 strapped to you and you are in combat or stuck on a base with guard duty followed by shop time to where you have no days off to do anything.

They lie and say you can only be deployed for one year at a time with a minimum time off in between, yet the actual rule says that no company can have back to back deployments, so they bring them back for 2 weeks, assign them to a different company and send them back out to iraq and afghanistan- as long as they keep them worrying about living, they are too busy to realize how badly they are being screwed over.
