i bought a used car from a dealership, and yes the car had some problems, not with the engine or anything but parts were missing. i brought it back to them to have everything fixed. it was there for 3 days and nobody called to inform me about my car. 5 days later they said it was waiting to be picked up, so i go to pick it up and NOTHING was fixed. they keep saying parts were ordered and it was being fixed, but everytime i ask, they say the parts are gonna take another week to get in. they have had my car for 10 days now, is it legal for a car dealership to keep your car over a certain period of time?

They probably ordered the wrong parts a couple of times. It does happen. It was wrong for them not to call, but it is not illegal for them to have the car that long.

Check to see if your state has a "lemon law". In Florida, you can return the car for a full refund if it doesn't meet certain expectations. If so, find out what constitutes that particular law. Also, call the Better Business Bureau. If you were at a reputable dealership, they would offer you a loaner until the work on your car was finished.

Call you attorney general - in many states there are consumer protection laws - every state is different. Other than that - the slime ball dealer has disclaimed everything on his sales contract - be nice & gracious - you may not have a leg to stand on . Also call a local troubleshooter at the local newspaper - car dealers hate bad press.

best thing to do with this is call the attorney generals office, and ask them what your options are.
