1. THE BEST pizza in New York - Di Fara's on Avenue J and East 14th Street in Brooklyn - right under the Q train at the Avenue J stop.
2. Totonno's Pizza on Neptune Avenue in Brooklyn - two blocks from the Stillwell Avenue station on the Q, F, N and D lines
3. Grimaldi's on Front Street in the DUMBO section of Brooklyn
4. Lombardi's on Spring Street in Soho, Manhattan
5. L&B Spumoni Gardens 86th Street and Avenue U, Brooklyn
6. John's of 12th Street in the East Village on 12th Street and Second Avenue
There is a great pizza place in the Bronx off Arthur Avenue - I hope someone else posts this one, I can't remember the name, but they make a wonderful pizza

You really know how to ask a question that will get New Yorkers talking. Everyone has their favorites. Of course we also have at least a dozen real Ray's each claiming to be the one and only. But, not being a pizza person, I will state that John's pizza is about the best I have ever eaten. Can't get it by the slice, but who cares, get a friend and eat the whole thing.

The absolute best, and most authentic, is at Una Pizza Napoletana on 1st ave and 12th street (?). Only four kinds of individual pizzas are available and it is on the pricey side. But the ingredients are the best (San marzano tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, flour imported from Italy to make the dough). Una Pizza puts the traditional New York pizza institutions to shame!

My personal favorite would have to be Rosario's Pizza. Great prices and everything you want in a slice of pizza!

My favorite is Lombardi's. I order the pepperoni with mushrooms and a pitcher of soda (where else can you order a pitcher of soda?).
My runner up is Patsy's, which has a few locations throughout the city. The pizza is tasty and the rolls and their salads put the place over the top.

Mario Batali's Otto is very good. Another top pick would be Franny's in Prospect Heights (Brooklyn). DiFara's is really good, but the last time I was there I had to wait almost 2 hours and the crust was a little burnt (when you wait 2 hours you have the right to complain about things like burnt crust)
