I came across an article about Essie Mae Washington-Williams, Strom Thurmond's illegitimate daughter. How messed up is to know that your biological dad was the fiercest defender of segregation and that he had sex with your black mother when she was in 15?

i'd love to more about my family's history. we already know quite a bit due to my sister's hard work and research. yes, that means closet skeletons as well. it's fascinating. some ancestors had indiscretions but it doesn't affect me. i didn't do it, they did.
