Someone told me it was dirty & not worth swimming in. Is that true? Also, do they have any dangerous creatures, like jellyfish or sharks?

Far Rockaway beach is perfectly OK. There are no sharks and very few jellyfish. Also, watch for the riptide if you swim more than 40 feet out. You'll also want to bring your own food and sodas because there aren't any stores along the boardwalk. But the beaches also aren't that crowded, so you'll have lots of space to put your blanket out on the beach.

Around the beach streets on the western side of Far Rockaway is nice to take a dip in the ocean. Sharks haven't been seen close to the beach in over 40 years. The jellyfish for the most part are harmless, just a slight nuisance.

I'd suggest you take the shuttle train from Broad Channel to Rockaway Park, the other end of the peninsula. The beach and boardwark there are lovely and safe--definitely nicer than Far Rockaway. There's always a possibility of running into dangerous creatures at any beach on the East Coast, but the likelihood is really extremely low.

Breezy point at the western tip of Rockay is the nicest beach and that's far from clean. I was a fort tilden just today and saw a syringe in the sand. Really, There are no nice beaches in NY. You can go to nearbly Long Island which has a few beaches that are ok, but nothing special.

Don't even think about it. Hopefully, the day will come when this is not the case, but for now, head to Long Beach, Jones Beach or Robert Moses.

...some have, maybe now it have more. because it is not properly maintained.
