This is the first time for me, so sorry in advance. What information do I need? Do I even have to file if I didn't make that much money? I only started my job around October.

Thanks!

Probably not. Get a 1040 EZ form booklet and read the preface. All info is there.

Heck yes you should file your tax return...to get your money back from both the Federal and State if you had taxes withheld...box 2 and box 15 respectively.

If you are claimed as a dependent of another, such as your parents, you would only be allowed the standard single deduction of $5150 from your earned taxable wage. Subtract the 5150 from your earnings and see if there is a positive number left over;;;;if no, you will get all of your taxes withheld by Fed and State back in a refund.

Keep in mind also......if no one else is claiming you as their dependent and you are able to claim yourself..........the IRS owes you an additional $30. Check the box on the 1040 line 71 for excise taxes paid. By doing this, the government must pay you the $30 either as an offset to any tax liabilty you may have, or as an addition to your refund $$$$$....FREE GOVERNMENT MONEY. :)

You must file a tax return if your income from wages was $8,450 or more in 2006, assuming that you are not being claimed as a dependent by another taxpayer. If you are, the limit is $5,150.

Even if you don't have to file, if you had income taxes withheld from your wages you'll need to file a tax return to get a refund of those taxes withheld.

If your income is less than $52,000 you're probably eligible to use the IRS sponsored Free E-File program. Go the the IRS website at http://www.irs.gov and click on the Free E-File link on the left side of the page to learn all about the program.

YES: You have to file even if you made only a little bit of money, YOU WILL GET ALL THAT WAS TAKEN FROM YOU IF YOU DO. Just take the W2 that your employer gives you to a tax preparer. The cost should be reasonable, make sure that you ask first. DO NOT GET INTO THE TRAP OF QUICK RETURNS.

Take the slow road and put the money in your pocket. If you made $1000 a month for October, November, December - you have a gross of $3,000 and a taxable income that would have caused you to pay $400 in taxes. You can get this back this year, make sure that you file.

It does not matter. As long is there is federal withholding taxes withheld you have the potential to get a refund.
