Too patronising, Too bright, Too loud, Too annoying. I think half the problem with kids nowadays is that they are overstimulated, there's always a TV on in most houses, they have free access to games consoles/DVD players etc. Have you noticed how loud kids are now? They can't even walk down the street having a conversation without shouting. As I get older I realise that the popular media should be blamed for kids having the attention span of a gnat.
Thank God my kids have seemed to get tired of Kids TV too, so in our house they watch maybe 20 mins a day. That's not us making rules, they would just rather go and play, which is something of which I am proud.

A little bit of TV isn't going to hurt. In fact, if the programming is educational, then it can be a good thing. However, too much TV (even if it is educational) is a bad thing. Physically, a child should not be sitting for very long periods of time. Mentally, they should be exercising their imaginations a bit. Socially, they need to talk and communicate and play with others. Too much TV is also related to attention deficits. TV is so fast paced and entertaining--try counting how many seconds it takes before the camera is moved. It's not very long. Overall, TV is fine, so long as it's in limited quantities.

I only let my children watch certain shows. Some of the Cartoons only teach them how to be violent and say words that I was never allowed to say when I was a kid. I find "Treehouse" is the best for smaller children. Then I just select what the older kids watch. No violence. There is enough of that in the world already!!
Thanks for the great question!! :)

I monitor what mine watch, I like Mystery hunters and the big bang on discovery for kids. In fact most things on Discovery are OK. The secret is just sit with them. Mine have DVD in their room but not tv, its not tuned in. They watch films that are good for kids. For instance tonight they are watching Oliver! its Shakespear after all just a way kids can understand.

I have 3 children. One is 12 and has skipped a grade and still gets straight A's in school. Another is 2 and knows how to say her abc's and read and write them. She knows her colours and left and right. Both children have been addicted to t.v. since babies. I find they have learnt alot from television. Easier to learn abc's from someone dressed up in a big bird costume than it is coming from a boring old teacher. If they watch the right programming it is beneficial. The third child? you might ask. Well, he's only 2 months, he's not into the whole t.v. thing yet. But I assure you, he will be.

i think it depends on what you let your kids watch. some cartoons and programs offer educational things and others no so well. i think there should be more educational programming on tv. the more prepared our kids are when they go to school, the better chance they will have at success. hope this helps. good luck.
