is it possible to like the idea of someone but not them?
i think i like the idea of some guy but not him. i actually don't like his personality at all. his looks are not that great either. but i still find myself wishing he'd pay me some attention. talk to me, etc.
and when he does, i feel slightly victorious.
what's up with that?
note: i have considered that i could like him despite the fact that i don't think i do but i've come to the conclusion that i really don't. i cannot think of one positive thing to say about him and it's not even that he has hurt my feelings in the past - i just don't like him.
which makes the situation all that much more confusing:
Why do i want HIM to like me enough to pay more attention to me? Why HIM? why not another guy?

It sounds like this is just a challenge to you. You're not really interested in him, but you can't understand why he's not interested in you. Let it go. If you continue to try and get his attention , you may have to deal with it later when you decide you don't really want him around.

I think you like the idea of being liked, and even though this person doesn't appeal to you there's something inside you that wants to be liked by whomever you decide should like you.
The victorious feeling is, as when playing games, the "I won"...I got what I wanted. It doesn't have to do with him (the person) but him behaving as you desire.
You need to try to figure out why you single out people and decide their attention is necessary. Is it a power issue? Manipulation? What's so important about getting someone you either care nothing about, or actually dislike, to like or pay positive attention to you?

sounds like you dont even like the IDEA of him either. I think its more like a conquest. If you can win him over then you can win anyone over. I wouldnt even try to get him to pay attention. What would be the point? Sounds like you would reject him anyway if he did pay you attention. So dont hurt him or confuse yourself any further. Move on and find someone you like everthing about.

is this guy popular, or in some way "cool" among your community whether it be in school or work or in the neighboorhood? well if thats the case, maybe if you feel like if he pays attention to you it makes you feel better about yourself like your almost in with a crowd or "cooler". or maybe he's just a personal test or goal and the combination of the way he is or where he stands among your peers for some reason comes together as a perfect target for a challenge. or maybe just maybe theres something different about him that you secretly do like.

Power it's all about power. You just want the power of having someone pay you attention, the ability to have people you don't like wanting you.
I am not sure what you mean about the idea of someone, what do mean his opinions what exactly do like about him.

sounds like even though his personality and things aren't appealing to you you do find something intriguing about him and are curious to find out what it is. Forget about it and find other interests. If you lead him to believe you like him it will only lead to problems once you lose interest
