After you are used to the incredible buffets in Vegas...I would say "not really" much to choose from in the Barstow area...but some standard chain places.....

The midpoint between LA and Vegas is mostly desert. If you want to stop and eat a sit down meal,my suggestion would be in Baker. There are 2 restaurants there:Bun Boy and Mad Greek.Other than that, you will find chain restaurants and a whole lot of nothing.

You'll find all the standard chain restaurants in Barstow, which is basically the eastern edge of L.A.'s sphere of influence. Barstow also has lots of good family-owned Mexican restaurants.

The actual halfway point is around Baker, the gateway to Death Valley. In addition to a few fast food outlets, Baker features the Bun Boy Restaurant, a family restaurant (like Denny's or Perkin's) which is known for having the world's largest thermometer in its parking lot. Beyond there, there's pretty much nothing until you reach the casinos at the Nevada border.

Though it's not the mid-way point, if you happen to get hungry in Victorville, there's a fair-sized concentration of restaurants around the mall of Victor Valley. Both restaurants at the mall and around the mall are listed on my web page http://www.family-vacation-getaways-at-los-angeles-theme-parks.com/Mall-of-Victor-Valley.html (don't worry, I don't sell anything on my website. I just love travel....) There's about 2 dozen places you can try, both fast-food and sit-down; even a Chuck E Cheese, if you're taking kids. There's gas at that exit, plus the mall and other shopping if you need to pick up something you forgot.

If you stop in Barstow, there's a handy map of the town with restaurants already marked which was produced by the Barstow Chamber of Commerce. It's a cute and handy map...here's the URL: http://www.barstowchamber.com/visitors/images/tourism-map.jpg

Tommy's Burgers in Barstow is the best. Its the last stop of "LA" cuisine before Vegas. Second best would be In-N-Out. In Rancho Cucamonga/Ontario, there's The Hat and Fatburger. All the best LA fast food dining....

The only thing that sticks out is Bun Boy in Baker. You will find most "LA" fast-food in Vegas, such as In-N-Out, Tacos Mexico, and Fatburger
