My girl kitten was much less adventurous that her brothers. They definately left the nest before her - I found them crawling across the floor and I swear their eyes weren't open! It was always like that - they'd investigate first, then a few days later she'd get around to following them. I would even bring her out of the nest so she'd see what was going on (and that's how she earnt her nickname of Squeak because she'd complain).

It may be that your cat is shy like that.

But - is she still with her siblings, so she can see what they are doing ? Is she gaining weight like them? Can she see your finger if you move it near her? Does she seem to be progressing ok otherwise?

I hope that you are taking her to the vet for checkups regularly. A bother to do but well worth the peace of mind.

You need to really watch this kitten at this stage. Make sure its eating enough. It is 4 weeks old now and you should start to introduce wet food to the kitten. Thin the food out with some formula. Or try using human Baby food try the chicken. But above all else you need to be sure it is eating enough. I have had kittens that start to shy away from playing and then die within a day or two.

Pinch the skin around its neck if there is no loose skin the kitten is severly dehydrated, and needs a Sub Q shot from the vet!!

PLEASE pay attention to everything this little one is doing, and if it seams to be getting worse get it to the vet !!

I'm not trying to scare you. Take into consideration the cat is only 1 month old. Some cats have naturally shy behavior--they have to be encouraged to "join the group." Kitty may also have medical situations (ie: hearing problems, eyesight problems). Give the little thing a little time, observe them, and work with them. If there is no improvement, see your / a vet.

Here are some links to caring for cats with no mom. You should give it a little extra love it sounds like the runt. It may be failure to thrive. The links are really good. The second one is best.

Your cat is scared and I promise if you leave him alone for a couple of days he'll be fine. Also play with the other kittens and make playing look interesting. He'll join in sooner or later.

Your Kitten may not feel comfortable in it's new surroundings. Try playing with him/her and making it feel at home. Try using treats or string. The more one-on-one time you have with the kitten the more it feels comfortable.

Probably insecure. Pay more attention to him, feed him cat formula and just wait it out. He should grow out of it.

It's very young and if it has had no contact with other cats, it probably doesn't know how to.
