In 2006, I went to this website and got my "free" annual credit report. Or so I thought. Later that year I noticed that $12's had been taken out of my bank account every month by Triple Advantage since I got that "free" credit report. I don't know how they even got my credit card info, since I didn't give it to them. When I called Triple Advantage to cancel the membership (that I hadn't even signed up for), they told me that they hadn't been charging me money and that I didn't even have a membership w/ them. Hmmm. So I called all 3 credit company's with the annual credit report and all of them told me that they had no membership on file for me. So who was taking my money if the very ppl that show up on my bank statement deny doing it? I canceled that credit card, so they can't take my money anymore, but still....could this come back later to haunt me?

Well, I know for sure that I did go to the right website. And I didn't give them my credit card info. I guess someone may have stolen my credit info and paid for the report, but that's all they bought w/ it. And also, when I called the triple advantage to cancel the membership, they looked it up under that credit card # and found no membership.

I did go to annualcreditreport.com and I didn't sign up for anything. When I called them to check, they even told me that I hadn't. They said that all I got was the free report and that's all. What I'm worried about is that I did call my bank about this. They gave me the # of the company that charged me. When I called that company, they denied charging me anything. I can't cancel a membership that I don't have. I'm just worried that even though I canceled my credit card, that they'll continue charging me and end up getting a collection agency involved.

No idea how they managed to start billing you, but here is what to do now.

Contact the bank and find out exactly who is billing you. Send them a certified demand letter that unless they refund your money, or demonstrate that they have an agreement with you to bill you, they must return the money.

Inform the bank to cease paying future payments.

suing them will be a chore...but if you want to do it out of principle go for it.

Tripple Advantge runs a web site called freecreditreport.com somehow you got there. Why did it take you until later that year to find out they were taking out $12 a month. You should be checking your statements monthly and noticed this as soon as you got your statement.

You have 60 days to dispute the charges with your bank, and I would go through the process to do that. This will force the charging company to prove that you authorized the charges. If you did not they will reverse them, if you did you will have to go through the process to have them stop the membership.

It is highly unlikely that someone stole your credit card and signed you up for this, a credit membership is probably not on the top of their list if they have your credit card number.

If you go to annualcreditreport.com you are not asked for any credit card information so there is no way they can charge you.

Then you may have misspelled the URL and did not go to https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp

I just got my second credit reports from AnnualCreditreport.com (I got my first credit reports from them last year and last week again for this year) and I was never charged.

Someone must have used your credit card to sign up for that service, but I don't think it came from getting your reports from annualcreditreport.com

Afterall, if you actually went to the REAL AnnualCreditReport.com https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp , you won't be asked for your credit card information so they won't have your credit card information. So it is DEFINITELY not from AnnualCreditReport.com . Someone have stolen your credit card number and used it to buy that subscription

If you did not order that triple advantage subscription, simply call your credit card to (a) dispute the charges; and (b) let them know your card is being used fraudulently. They will issue you a new card and a new number, though some companies will require you to first submit a notarized affidavit that those are not your charges.

You went to www.freecreditreport.com. It is a credit monitoring service. www.annualcreditreport.com does not charge a fee. It was established due to a change in the Fair Credit Reporting Act, called the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions (FACT) Act. You should call your bank to get the identifying information on the transaction, then call Triple Advantage with that info.

Maybe it is your scummy credit card company than enrolled you in something, not that website. Or maybe someone else charged THEIR membership to your card. Protest the charges w/ the credit card company. Tell them you didn't authorize it, therefore it is fraudulent & you aren't paying it. Notify them by certified mail. We use annualcreditreport.com all the time. I pull mine, dh & son's reports from a diff. bureau every 4 months (1 from each bureau each year). We have never been charged even a single $1 & I started pulling them as soon as it became available. Btw, if you have no credit cards, then no one can charge unauthorized crap on them. We live w/o borrowing at all. Wanna try it? Go to the website below to learn how to get out of debt & stay out.

There are 2 possibilities. The first is you did not go to annualcreditreport.com which is actually free. The second, and more likely is that when you were transferred to Experian, you did not read the fine print and you signed up for their credit monitoring service. I have obtained copies of my own report though annualcreditreport.com, though credit monitoring services, and though outright purchase. I know from personal experience that YOU did something wrong.

While trying to get a credit report, the individual bureaus end up offering their reporting service as an option and unless you're paying attention, you may end up accidentally signing up for them. Call the individual bureau and cancel the membership.

You signed up for their program. You need to call them and cancel. I had to do that. They will harass the heck out of you to keep it, but after yelling at them they finally cancelled it.

Your credit report is free. It's the credit monitoring and credit scores that are NOT free. You have to be very careful and read the fine print.

I have also used annualcreditreport.com and I have never received a bill. I did see offers on the site, but I declined the offers.
