I am a little confused as to how to go about obtaining a permit to work in England. I am currently in England on holiday, but was considering staying and working here. All the information I can find seems to be aimed at those still in the United States. Am I able to recieve a permit while I am already here in the UK just traveling as a tourist? Any info would be appreciated.

Yes you can. You can find the necessary forms and information on this government website... http://www.workingintheuk.gov.uk/working_in_the_uk/en/homepage.html#

Your application may take a long time (many months). You may find that you have to return to the US whilst your application is being processed (depends when your visa expires).
