What does Flannery O'Connor mean when she says "Christ-haunted"?

Christ haunted means that although Christ isn't at the forefront of lives, he is definitely in the shadows, hearts and minds.

Well the statement is open for interpretation, of course. But having lived in the south for 15 years, I think what she means is that there's an abundance of people who believe in Christ in the south whether or not they live up to Christ's teachings--and it's the whether or not they live up to Christ's teachings that haunt the people of the south.

nicely the fact is open for interpretation, of direction. yet having lived interior the south for 15 years, i think of what she skill is that there is an abundance of folk who believe in Christ interior the south despite if or no longer they stay as much as Christ's teachings--and this is the despite if or no longer they stay as much as Christ's teachings that hang-out the people of the south.

He means that though the South is wrought with the effigies of Christianity (It is affectionately known as the "Bible Belt"), its citizens do not live their lives for Christ. That is, they go through the motions of Christianity but fail to live Christly lives.

I think she meant that many people in the South don't live according to Christian principles, but the knowledge of those principles and an unrealized belief in them bears heavily on Southerners in the form of guilt.
