There is no set percentage it will vary person to person, day to day, age to age, and dependent as well on caloric intake and activity level

The percentage of calories retained depends on the calories expended. If you eat mor that you burn you get fat. If you burn more than you eat you lose weight. If you eat as much as you burn you stay the same.

Everything you eat is absorbed and everything that is not burned for energy is retained as body fat.

whatever you dont use as energy or that you burn off is stored in your body. go to www.mypyramid.gov its this awesome website where you can record you food intake and your activity and it will tell you where you stand physically as far as what youve burned off and what is still in your body
