first of all, u should make sure it is blood.. as some food and medications can stain ur urine and it will appear as blood.
if the presence of blood is confirmed by urinalysis, (and it is sure not menestrual blood as am guessing you/she have/has reached menopause) then the reason can be one of many.
in brief, it could be one of three main categories:
1. Pre-renal (a problem in the blood before it even reaches ur kidneys)
2. Renal (a problem with your kidney)
3. Post-renal (the problem lies somewhere after the urine is formed in the kidneys) which includes stones, bladder infection or tumors..

the tests should pick up the source of the problem, and i hope it isn't serious..

good luck, and we'd like a follow up if possible..

Hiya I dont know the answer but leave the question up a few days as I had a good answer to a medical problem from a GP called DR Frank, and he or she might reply to you too. Hope that helps a bit.

Hi there. I'm sorry for your trouble. The rule is blood in the urine of a middle-aged woman is cancer until ruled out otherwise. Hematuria (blood in the urine) can point to kidney stones, some peoples bladders dilate and bleed with no organic disease. You can have a kidney stone that is rolling around in your urinary bladder causing some bleeding. This is tough. All the waiting for results.I'm going through serial pelvic exams for possible cancer. I know how nerve-racking this is. Talk to a friend for support. Talk to me. You are not alone.

You could have a urinary tract infection, but you should have symptoms also of burning , when you urinate, and pain in the bladder area, which will take an antibiotic to heal it, you could have kidney stones, also. Hope everything turns out ok.

Don't worry, just keep on testing, if you burn while urinating, then a Urinary infection is possibile, or bladder infection or even the pancreas. Good Luck, hope you find out soon and you will be fine.
