Hello, I own a digital Olympus D-550 Zoom camera-cord fit perfectly into my HP-XP tower serial port which allowed me to download my photos. My tower went down, so I am using an older one HP98. Now I am unable to download my photos, because plug will not fit into port. Is there some type of adapter available?? Thanks a bunch for any help--Lisa

I have never seen a digital camera with a serial cable ... ever! I'm assuming you mean the USB port. USB plug is small rectangular plug about 1/8" x 1/2" with a pitchfork looking design.

This plug should fit any USB connection even on an older computer. I have experienced one USB outlet however that just wouldn't accept the plug. I tried everything, but it wouldn't go.

I finally looked into the connector with a flashlight and found that a plastic piece inside a connector had broken off and was inside the socket. I removed it and all was well.

It's worth a look.

The first digital cameres (about 10 years ago) had serial connections, but the Olympus D-550, like every camera made these days, uses USB. (http://www.dcresource.com/reviews/olympus/d550z-review/index.html)
I suspect your old HP98 is really old, manufactured before USB became the standard. You could buy a USB port for that old computer, if you're really sure you want to keep working with it. It will cost about $40, but before you buy, you need to figure out what kind of bus this computer has. You're probably not confident enough to open up the box and try to figure this out, so maybe the best thing to do is take the whole CPU box into a computer store and ask them to do it for you.
