Try chewing on cinnamon sticks that you can get in the grocery store. They taste yummy and last for hours and act as a good, no calorie substitute for that feeling of having a cigarette in your mouth/hands. This really helped my b/f when he quit.

This may sound weird, but I cut plastic straws into cigarrette sized lengths and had a couple with me at all times - especially while driving. I puffed on them and chewed them up. That really helped me with breathing and the oral fixation part of giving up smoking. Also, when I wanted a cigarette I took very deep slow breaths until the craving passed. Lastly, in the beginning, I didn't hang out around anyone who smoked while they were smoking and I didn't consume alcohol for a long time - because I loved to smoke with a cocktail. That's what I needed to do to get that monkey off my back. It's been 13 years smoke free and no regrets. I feel VERY healthy and I don't stink from cigarrettes any more. My teeth are sparkling white and my house doesn't smell. My I also suggest you focus on the things that not smoking will benefit you: health, clean body and home, feel good about not being addicted to something - I always said I was a slave to cigarettes, reduce wrinkles (that was a big one for me), and feeling in control of me was a big factor. I wish you the best of luck in reducing your chemical dependancy of this very dangerous substance.

Well my most recent attempt lasted a month and now I'm smoking again. I will make another and another after that if I need to but up till now it seems that the things that have worked best for me are the patches, and staying away from smokers. If I can stick with those two things I think I'll be okay.

When I quit smoking, and it wasn't easy, I used nicoderm cq patches, then I substituted with bottles of water. no gum or anything else in my mouth. just keep a bottle of water by your side, it gives you something to do with your hand and your mouth. It really worked for me

if you really want to quit, you will.
And just b/c many people say you cure a smoking addiction with a food addiction are not right.
You may want to take walks when you need a smoke, or go to the gym, read a book, go ride a bike etc.
