You didn't say how old you are and what treatments you had already tried. I will tell you that a shoulder replacement is very major surgery and much more complicated than a knee replacement. I have two relatives that have had either one or two shoulder replacements. Neither did well post surgery and both had as much pain afterwards as prior to the surgery. You might do better than they did if you follow your physical therapy regimen closely. If things go right you might be able to swim a little, but you will certainly not have the mobility found in a normal shoulder joint. good luck with your decision

Depending on your condition before surgery, the quality of the implants/surgery, your physical therapy afterward and your compliance with your treatment will determine your outcomes. If you have very restricted range of motion prior to surgery than you will most likely have it afterward. I would highly recommend getting a referral to a physical therapist BEFORE surgery. This will allow the PT to take some measurements to establish a baseline as well as perform some treatments to help improve your joint mobility, strength, posture, flexibility and range of motion. This will help you achieve better outcomes after surgery.

Like someone else wrote this is the most complicated of all the commonly performed joint replacement surgeries. The shoulder relies a lot of muscle control which is why it is so challenging. If your rotator cuff tendons are damaged they will also need to be repaired during surgery leading to a longer recovery.

Please feel free to ask any other additional questions.

TRY THIS FIRST you may not need it. See a massage therapist for fastest improvement. and chiropractors help.

Much pain is from muscles below is an example of what may help (based on headaches).
Begin with a couple swigs of molasses or a couple of bananas daily - magnesium (which regulates many things in the body) and potassium (a needed building block for muscles).
Drink at least 1/2 gallons of water per day. Running a body low on water is like running a car low on oil is the analogy the head of neurology at UCDavis told my husband about 10 years ago.

Now to the cause - muscles - your back, neck shoulders and head have tender spots. They are knots in the fibers of the muscles called trigger points. It makes the muscles tight which makes them press on nerves and other things causing the pain.

The cure - start with a professional massage, you will also want to go back over any place you can get to 6-12 times per session up to 6 times per day rubbing (or lightly scratching on your head) every where that is tender until the knots go away. The place where the skull connects to the spine press up under the edge of the skull (to get to those muscles).

For more information read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. It teaches what to do and where the pain comes from.

Ummmmmm---I doubt if any human beings would be around in 20005! ok, i know that became a typo. yet heavily, i does no longer have any concept. basically guessing, i might say there have been greater hip and knee replacements, as those joints seem somewhat in possibility of harm or positioned on and tear. in certainty, i do no longer think of i've got popular of any finished shoulder replacements. i'm no longer able to think of of the call of it, yet there's a marginally straight forward shoulder surgical operation -- no longer a replace.
