It is illegal to actually own a wolf from the wild, unless you have all these special permits and go through training to learn how to care for it. But you CAN own a dog/wolf hybrid.
I actually know someone who owns one and she is the sweetest dog I know. But ALOT of training and socializing went into her.
Here is a little bit of info on Wolf Hybrids:

Check with your local and state ordinances. Some states make it illegal and others only allow hybrids and some require a certain percentage of the breed to be mixed with a domestic dog. Some things you may want to consider before getting one is the activity level. Wolfs are very active, more so than any domestic dog. They require a higher percentage of protien so they will have to be on a certain diet. Also, you may want to expect public scrutiy and having your dog labeled as agressive. Many people are ignorant to the fact that people can become part of a dogs or wolf pack and not their dinner so any little thing that happens, regardless of how innocent it is could trigger someone to open a lawsuit. I myself would not recommend you get a wolf or hybrid for the simple fact that they are wild animals and they are slowly creeping back on the endangered species list but if you are still persistent on getting one then do your research and take your time. You don't want to jump into something unprepared.

nicely there, a wolf is think approximately a wild animal... so some states do no longer enable human beings to have wild animals as pets! yet while u like wolfs why no longer get a husky they're interior the wolf family individuals!

The problem with wolves is that they are not domestic and they are illegal to own in most states unless you have a wildlife permit. The reason it is illegal to own them is not because people would treat them cruelly but they are not like dogs they don't like going places with their owners like dogs do, they aren't domestic, they aren't social with people. The biggest reason it is illegal is that rabies vaccines are NOT packaged for wolves so you cannot keep your wolf safe from the disease like you can a dog. If you want something that looks like a wolf great buy a domestic breed that resembles a wolf but it is not fair for people to keep wild animals as pets.

hmmm i don't think it is but wolf dogs take alot of work! they are part wolves after all and the wild side can come out very easy...a women close to where i live was just killed by her pack of wolves she kept out side...and she was their only care taker....i to love wolves...dogs are of them after all... but i can not see getting one and trapping it with in a house that is cruel. they have tomuch wild instint to do that to a full blooded one.....hmm their are a few sites out there about wolf/dog hybrids....but like a pit bull or a rottie it takes the right type of person to own such animal.
but really i think they should be left in the wild not bred to make pets they are not pets and they have the wilderness in their hearts.

I don't know for sure if it's illegal but it's a bad idea. If the animal turns out to be a menace to other animals or people, it could end up having to be put down. Now what kind of thing is that to do to an animal, just so you can have what you perceive to be a funky pet?

In a lot of states in America, it's illagal. As people have said you need a permit. It's not illegal because of animal cruelty, it's illegal becasue they arent demestocated, and 90% of the time whne people get an animal that's not ment to be in captivity, it eventually snaps and kills the owner. It's for the safty of people, and the animal.

I'm pretty sure its illegal... but check with your state. I know it's not illegal to own a hybrid, but it takes alot of time and effort... if anything, siberian huskies are the closest breed of dog to the wolf.
Good luck with finding the perfect dog! =)

It deoends on were you live. But if they are not tollerated in your state you could look at a Malamute they are great dogs. They have many of the same attributes of a wolf.
