You are helping to eliminate the fat between the muscle and skin, but you are not "working" the ab muscle per se. But walking will slim the belly(remove fat deposits) more than 1000 crunches a day..so if you have to choose one or the other, choose walking.

Walking and Running helps the abdominals. Crunches are more effective as well. You simply do what you enjoy doing.

Well it depends on what kind of walk you are doing. If you are walking at a steady pace and you start to feel a burn in the abs, then it's helping. If not, you need to pick up the pace or do those dreaded crunches or sit ups. Afterall, no pain, no gain.....right?

Yes walking does help your abs. Crunches targets them more, but walking does not hurt. Challenge yourself while walking to do more for your abs by holding in your stomach as if you are trying to press your belly button back to your spine. Remember to breathe though! This will also help strengthen your abs while you walk. Also try moving your arms as if you are running which will twist your sides and work your abs harder. Hope that helps!

You are doing very, very little. If you are worried about your abs, you need to do proper crunches. I also reccommend doing some exercises for your back. Opposing muscles need to be worked to get the best results.

"if" you hold your stomach muscles in tight while walking then they will get stimulated isometrically. if you don't then they will not really be getting any form of direct stimulation.
in order to effectively "exercise" a muscle it was be stimulated throughout it's entire range of motion.

For your abs you'll need to do a combination of cardio and sit-ups/crunches.
