Cats are 'chattel' so technically you cannot own one...

If the cat is being hurt you should be able to intervene without repurcussion....There was a guy here whose neighbor grabbed one of two kittens who were being beheaded by their 'owner' in the front yard. The owner was arrested by police, not the person who intervened.

Stealing the animal from a suspected abuse situation is doing one illegal act in response to another. Both are wrong. Call the ASPCA or the Humane Society, or even the local police or sheriff's office. Let them take care of it.

It's not worth itigation for doing it yourself.

I personally could not just stand back and watch someone abusing an animal. If you are prepared to have a cat in your life, I would take her, and at the same time I would tell them you are taking the cat, and if they give you any problem tell them you are reporting them, and do so!!! Good luck.

Yes it is stealing, However reporting them is not illegal! If you do take him they will most likely see it in one of you windows. However if he is an outside cat it will be a lot harder for them to proof it is their's. Do you think they would give you the cat? Maybe they don't even want it! Tough situation, I hope he will be OK.

I think that is illegal. You need to get some experts in on this case. Call your local humane society or the ASPCA and they will help you and the cat.

Yes, but you can report the abuse. Call the Humane Society and get info and advice. If you don't take steps legally then you could get in trouble. Best wishes!

If they are abusing the cat, you should call your local humane society or animal protection agency to have them legally intervene.

Just start feeding the cat and caring for it. Cat's aren't owned by anyone, just themselves. After time she will make your home hers. So it's her choice not the neighbor. My last 2 cats made my home theirs and quit going to their regular homes. Not my choice, it was theirs. I was just a more loving care giver.

I feel you must take the cat to prevent any more abuse. Tell them why and that you are going to report them if they give you any static about it.
