I was raised Catholic, came to realize that I didn't entirely understand the Catholic Church or even Christianity for that matter. So I kinda stepped back and began examining it. I also began studying other religions. I am now converting to Islm.

I am an Ex-Catholic (not an easy trick). I'm in between religions at the moment. Just out grew it I guess. Looking more towards the east now, maybe taoism...

Unlike most people here, I converted at 15 TO Catholicism. I had no real belief before, but I did study comparative religions both before and after my conversion.

In my reading I concluded that Buddhism is really a state of mind and a way of life rather than a religion. Hinduism was a little more complicated, but their polytheism put me off as primative.

I came to Christianity becuase of the large amount of written accounts of Jesus (even from non-Christians at the time). There seems to be more proof in making the case for Christianity than any other religion. I became a Catholic Christian because in researching different denominations, the Catholic Church far and away has the longest history, dating back directly to the time of Christ. Other denominations have mostly popped up in the last 500 years (the one exception being the Eastern Orthodox, which has been around for 1000 years).

I can't buy into Islam for several reasons. But that said, even in the Qu'ran great reverence is given to Jesus Christ. However, Muhammed was a warrior (unlike Jesus), and he converted people by the sword. He was, in my humble view, a polygamist and a killer. The Qu'ran directs the faithful to smite kaffir (non-Muslims) at the neck. History shows that they have been doing that since the inception of Islam in the mid-7th Century.

Please reconsider before converting to Islam. Furthermore, read that under Islamic Law, a Muslim converting AWAY from Islam commits a crime punishable by death. No other religion places this threat on their own people. Please be careful!
