My most basic one would be to east a lot of green vegetables, also to eat at least 2 pieces of fruit and 5 vegetables per day. And to eat a lot of fibre rich foods, which can range from brown bread and rice etc to vegetables and fruits. I hope this is easy enough to remember :-)

Basic nutrition is basic. Eating fresh fruits & veggies is best for you, no matter what shape you're in. Meat with little or no fat is best, with fish, chicken & turkey being the best. Vegetarians can eat a balanced diet quite nicely by including beans (soybeans, etc.) as a replacement for meat. Drinking at least 64 ounces of water a day makes sure that you're properly hydrated, keeping your body running efficiently. If you eat a balanced diet, you don't have to worry about taking supplements. Get yearly check-ups from your family doctor. How does this apply to nutrition? Because some problems that you might experience could be because you're not eating right, like a food allergy, or some other such food issue. For the best site on the net, go to www.sparkpeople.com. This site is free and has tons of information about nutrition, exercise and motivation. There are personal trainers and dieticians that help you know what's real. They don't support any of those crazy diet fads, and just go by plain old sense. Hope this helps you. <*)))><

This is easy to remember:
The closer a food is to it's original state, the better it is for you. The more it gets processed, the nutrients get lost, and things like salt & sugar get added.
Raw fruit & vegetables are a must--eat 6 or more servings a day.
Eat whole grain breads & cereal--check for fiber content, the higher the better.
Eat more chicken & fish than beef or pork, and limit that to 2 servings a day.
Drink non-fat milk, and eat low fat cheese and yogurt.
Stay away from junk food-chips, candy, cookies, these have NO nutrition. If you're dying for salty crunchy food, air-pop some popcorn, or get the fat-free microwave kind.
Good luck--it's hard to eat well in this fast food time!

Okay, here goes
1. Half your plate should be vegetables, a quarter starch, a quarter protein.
2. Drink at least 8 glasses of 8 ounces of clear, non carbonated, non caffienated fluid
3. Add color to your plate, try to vary the colors of the foods you are eating.
4. Exercise at least 30-60 minutes per day
5. Include some healthy fat in your diet
6. Avoid white or processed foods
7. Shop the perimeter of the grocery store, that is the freshest foods.
8. Shop daily for what you need to eat
9. Choose foods with at least 3 gm of fiber per serving if they have a label.
10. Avoid eating out

They say to eat plenty of brightly colored fruits and vegetables since they have the most nutrients and antioxidants. Whole grains (not just 'wheat' but must say 'whole' and '100%' before word wheat or grain) to get the most health and fiber benefits, consume 'good' fats such as the monounsaturated fats typically found in olive oil and certain nuts, foods with omega-3 fatty acids such as the nuts and fish. I also found a yahoo web article on tips for eating more healthy. It's titled: "100 Smartest Diet Tips Ever" Please remember that physical activity is just as important if not more than healthful eating :)

I agree with "stellabel" and applaud her recipe for healthy intake. Hopefully, she practices those steps as we all should strive to do.
All I would add, is that I have found after years of research, that it is better to eat 6 smaller "snack-type" healthy choice meals than it is to eat 3 big honking meals per day. You will feel better and not be as prone to weight gain as you age. In addition, this helps to prevent Diabetes II by keeping your natural blood insulin level on a more even keel.
