Don't worry about the scan. It's probably migraine. Your doctor wants to rule anything else out so he knows what he's dealing with.
There is a co-relation between headaches and women's hormones. That's likely why they started when you were pregnant.
I would recommend that you see a headache/pain management specialist or neurologist. They are much better than a family doctor for someone like you who has chronic headaches.
There is alot that can be done to help you. A specialist will help you understand what is causing your headaches. They will help you prevent the headaches and they will help relieve the pain.
The brain scan is painless. But it is the first step to determine what is the cause of your pain.

The biggest disasters are bleeding episodes, and if this were the problem you'd have had a major stroke and probably died years ago. That's crude but true. And with no other symptoms over this length of time, there's for all intents and purposes no chance of a tumor. Probably the only real concern is that you might have benign intracranial hypertension, and even that's somewhat unlikely without your having developed visual symptoms in this length of time. You'll also note that you seem to have seen several doctors in hospital during that time and none of them have thought there was enough of a worry to do a lumbar puncture (spinal tap) or scan then. I'd say you have a better than 99.9% chance of having a normal scan.

Much pain is from muscles below is an example of what may help (based on headaches).
Begin with a couple swigs of molasses or a couple of bananas daily - magnesium (which regulates many things in the body) and potassium (a needed building block for muscles).
Drink at least 1/2 gallons of water per day. Running a body low on water is like running a car low on oil is the analogy the head of neurology at UCDavis told my husband about 10 years ago.

Now to the cause - muscles - your back, neck shoulders and head have tender spots. They are knots in the fibers of the muscles called trigger points. It makes the muscles tight which makes them press on nerves and other things causing the pain.

The cure - start with a professional massage, you will also want to go back over any place you can get to 6-12 times per session up to 6 times per day rubbing (or lightly scratching on your head) every where that is tender until the knots go away. The place where the skull connects to the spine press up under the edge of the skull (to get to those muscles).

For more information read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. It teaches what to do and where the pain comes from.

I had persistant headaches too, don'T worry, have the scan it will probably come back to be nothing wrong with your brain - mine was all caused by my neck! Weird but true!!! I have a physiotherapist and he was able to assist in getting this under control via massage and electrical stimulation. I honestly think you will be fine hun, just get the scan to be on the safe side and then ask your doctor about possible neck or back injuries which may cause the pain to be deflected in to your head. Good luck and I hope this helps :-) Take care!
