Why are you afraid of him breaking your heart? Has he shown signs that he doesn't care about you? Have you been hurt in the past? If he hasn't shown signs of being a potential heartbreaker, then enjoy him and try to stop worrying. Focus on his good qualities and the good pts in the relationship. If you still want to define the relationship, try this: Decide what it is that you really want out of this relationship. Then, present him with what you want. Be open to him, and be mindful of how you speak to him. Let him know that you really care about him and how he feels, and you would love it if he'd do the same. If he shuts down on you and doesn't respond, move on. If he really wants to hold on to you, he will, and nothing will keep him from saying so.

Well, congrats on two years! Takes a lot of effort to get that far.
Personally, it depends on how old you are. If you are in High School, bringing up the future plans make a guy freak out for some reason. Instead of bringing up the conversation where you are both headed, how about sitting down with him and telling him that you feel that you both are simply stuck.
Maybe then you two can speak about how to become unstuck. And if he is not interested in helping the relationship become "unstuck" then you should make your unhappiness clear.
And if that doesn't work you have to ask yourself, are you happy? And if you aren't or feel that you won't be, I'd check out of the relationship. There's no point of spending anymore time committed to someone that doe not care how you feel.
Hopefully that helps!
Good luck!

It has been two years and this guy knows where your headed he is just afraid to tell you...I would suggest putting all your cards on the table tell him what you are looking for and if he isnt looking for the same be friends and find someone how is looking to settle down....

Why don't u write a letter to him telling him how u feel about whats going on and What he might be feeling. Because if ur truely in love with him and he is with u then he should be willing to talk about it.

Give him an ultimatum. If he doesn't want to get serious, show him the door. There's more dudes out there looking for young women than there are women looking for dudes. Go to any bar and you'll see what I mean.

You can love him and not be with him. If he isnt ready to move on he isnt ready you cant make him. so just think before you do!
