Baz ~
In my opinion, Brian Mitchell would blow Oscar of the ring in less than 6 rounds. Mitchell was one of the best boxers of the 80's and he had the great ability to box as well as to brawl. The biggest thing that Brian had going for him was, he didn't have a silver spoon in his mouth and had to fight the very best in their prime fighters of his era, unlike De La Hoya.

Oscar was so much bigger than the majority of fighters he got in the ring with and all of them were in serious wars in their respective careers before Oscar. The Great Julio Cesar Chavez was ten years out of his prime when they fought. The same can be written about Hernandez, Whitaker, Gatti, Paez and Ruelas.

Brian had a nice tight defense and could slip punches well. Oscars biggest weapon at Super Feather was his left hook because oscar is a converted southpaw. Brian would pick up on this easily and move away from Oscars left hand and lad his hard right hand keeping Oscar on his heels.

These two fighters both were impressive with their body attack but I believe that Brian had power in both hands and this would break Oscar down. Brian would beat Oscar and hurt him often thus stopping him late in the 5th.

Thanks for the question Baz.

I agree with Santana's view point. I do rate Oscar and his achievements but Brian Mitchell was the true road warrior. Due to sanctions against South Africa all of his title defences were made abroad in the home towns of all his opponents. Despite this adversity he was 13-0-1 in word title fights (with a disputed draw to Tony Lopez - who he later beat). He retired as world champion. He was a clever boxer who I believe would have dominated a 12 round decision.
