Symptoms are swollen veins, swelling of the legs, tired legs, legs that ache.
As far as causes are concerned, well my surgeon said it was just bad luck, they are basically caused when the valves in your veins don't function properly so instead of the blood flowing properly up it goes out hence the lumps.
Treatment varies dependant upon how serious they are, two forms of surgery one where they slice the top of your groin and pull the vein up and make small cuts in you legs to release the pressure the second type involves having to have an ultra sound and then i'm not sure, but that's what i've got to have done next, because even after surgery they come back

Varicose veins are simply dilated veins. Typically we mean those in the legs, but they can happen in other places, like the esophagus or the rectum ( hemorrhoids ).
In the legs are usually caused by standing for too long a time, being overweight, pregnancy, lack of exercise, etc.
Diagnosis is made by observation. They are visible.
Symptoms are cramps in the legs and some other unpleasant sensations . Treatment: exercise, lose weight, raise the bed 4 inches to decongest the legs while you sleep.
If not enough, you may need medical or surgical treatment

Well, as its not a disease, there aren't really any symptoms or diagnosis other than the unpleasant blue/black veins running up the sides of your leg. It can be caused by a number of factors, but the most common is by women crossing their legs. There are some cosmetic treatments availible, such as laser treatments and skin treatments to remove them, but they are very costly. My advice is simple to not develop them in the first place. Just try to keep your leg-crossing to a minimum, and you should be fine.

They are veins that appear on the surface of the skin. They can be itchy and tingly in the summer. You can wear surgical stockings provided by your GP. These can be a bugger to put on. Imagine, 10X Norah Batty. The veinscan be stripped, which is a small operation where small incisions are made along the area at intervals and the bits removed. I have had mine done. No scarring, very painless and home in a day. speak to your GP.

Hi,
What I know is that there are non-return valves in veins called semi lunar valves the stop the blood from falling back down the vein.
If these fail, the blood has more difficulty staying up the vein, so when it hangs back the veins stick out.
