your right so far
whithin your filewall you need to select scan all downloaded files
on a scale of 1 to 10 i havnt had a prob in 2-3 years but with the increase in popularity always read the comments at the bottom of any thing you chose prior to downloading
most sites have a green bar system
indicating health and popularity and feed back
seeds =ppl supplying it leech=ppl taking file
if you have a problem id also try ares bit limited but user friendly and no viruses as of yet

after you install the Bittorrent software, you can probably just double clikc on the .torrent file and the new software will handle the download.

you can not virus check until after you have downloaded 100% of any of the files. The data is worthless until the fill is 100% downloaded.

I like Azuerus, it lets you choose which files in a torrent you download and giver priority to the ones you want first
Bittorrent doesn't open you up to viruses, but the stuff you download could be full of it. be carefull, a lot of movies and videos turn out the patches that direct you to porn sites that could install worms.

you are right about what you said at the begenning. As far as it beeing safe...well I would say it is way more safe than limewire or stuff like that. If a file is bad or has a virus on bit torrents simply a person will tell everyone else it is bad and no one would seed it, and then just be takin out. but you can still scan the file just to make sure after it is finished downloading. If clean then open up and enjoy.

to give my opinion, i think Bit Comet is a better torrent downloader, i've put the link down there. so anyway once you've got your gear, find the download you want and when it asks you what to do you click on 'open' and open it with Bitwhateverprogramyouhave. i dont know if its the same on other programs but on bitcomet it comes up with a dialogue saying do you want to download this file and has a list of all the files it downloads. and ALWAYS check the comments for each download to see if its ok to download. anyway to check it for virusues you'll have to wait till its finished downloading then before opening check it for viruses. i think torrents are actually quite safe compare to places like limewire where you would usually get viruses if not careful. i would give it 7/10. hope i helped.

It's two stage. You get the bit torrent thingie (for want of a better term) which takes a couple of seconds. Then, you lay it on the bit torrent fetcher, and the long process of collecting the actual file you want begins.

Scan for virii anytime after you get the whole file, naturally.

well................................

you should scan the file for viruses after you completely download the file. If their are comments on the download from the bit torrent site, read them. They will mostlikely tell you if it is even worth downloading. If you read the comments and make sure you dont download viruses, id give it an 8

You are correct. uTorrent is a pretty good client.

A file has to be executed to implant a virus so check it after it has finished downloading and before you use it. BitTorrent is perfectly safe but the files you download with it potentially are not. As with any sharing utility.
