Here are the facts, rather than the heresay that has gone before:
There are a number of sleepers trains in the UK, mostly London to Scotland, nothing from Nottingham. However there is a sleeper from London Paddington to Cornwall. Obviously this would mean you having to go via London if you wanted to use it. Either way, go to www.nationalrail.co.uk and use journey planner for more info.

The best way to get there overnight by train is to get a Midland Mainline Train from Nottingham to London St Pancras, get the tube circle line from Kings Cross/St Pancras to Paddington. Then First Great Western do the overnight sleeper service to Penzance. To find out times and fares best to go to your local rail station.

No, there used to be some routes that had overnight sleeper trains but these were the long distance routes between England and Scotland. In recent years they've been replaced by normal trains and as far as I'm aware the only sleeper trains still operating are on the East Coast Main Line between London and Scotland.

Have you considered that it may be possible to fly from East Midlands Airport to Newquay in Cornwall? This would be around an hour and save you the sleeper trip whic would invole a trip across London and a change of trains.

in the event that they're something like American in a single day trains, the seats are rather diverse than the trains you're used to. they're designed for people to sleep in in a single day, so that they tilt rather a techniques back (a million-2 ft particularly than the a million-2 inches an airplane can supply)... and that they have got issues which come approximately to assist your ft and calves. Kinda like a l. a.-z-boy prepare seat. notwithstanding, ask your agent to get sparkling on the accomodations they supply. They easily won't supply loose berths for coach passengers. that's going to be your seat or no longer something. in case you choose a berth, put it aside and pay for it. once you're saying "motel prepare" that smacks of the posh shuttle that they objective on the cruise deliver crowd, wealthy American retirees. that's gonna be firstclass all the way and $$$$. this is achievable that 2nd-type sleepers exist at much less fee. Amtrak had them interior the east till the mid-Nineties, and that i used them lots formerly I have been given used to teach.

maybe during the summer, if you connected at somewhere like Birmingham New Steet station.
The summer timetable isn't published yet. It also depends on the destination station in Cornwall. Somewhere like Newquay in August could be a possibility.
