What are my legal options?
After 31 yrs of marrage my husband walked out. We have a disabled 28 yr. old son and my bed-ridden mother who lives with us.
My husband has been 'PRETENDING' to have Alzheimers so he could retire, not work and force me to get a job. For months he has been PRETENDING he couldnt drive, take his medications or do anything for himself.
I know he has been faking because in the back ground he has been planning his move to Florida to live with a friend. The day he left he had sense enough to pack some items, drive around and try to sell some guns (for money), buy a bus ticket, catch the bus on time and make his way down south.
What do I do now...he said when he was walking out that he would be back to get his things. How do I keep him from being able to walk back in and take whatever he wants.
I would love to get a divorce but every attorney I have talked to this week wants from $500 - $750. I barely have money to live on.
I would love any suggestions...thank you.

Thats very sad, Im sorry~! There are alot of things you can do~! If you have no money you can file for a divorce on your own, while this can be hard and frustrating it is the cheapest option...You would need to go into your local family court and to a legal advisor and they will direct you on what to do....You can get the fee wavied due to low income.I also believe that you can ask the court to make him pay as he walked out on you.You can go also to court and get a restraining order until your divorce is final to keep him out of your house~!I would also call the local police department and talk to an officer regarding abandonment~! Their are laws that do not allow a spouse to walk out on his or her significant other~! You would have to be able to prove that he was faking his "illness" which does not sound like it would be hard~! I hope that this information helps out some and Good Luck to you and your family~! Be strong and you can do it!!!!!

You don't need a lawyer to get a restraing order against him to prevent him from coming back to your house. Go to the police and tell them you fear for your saftey is he returns.

If you don't want any child support, alimony, property etc., and he isn't going to contest the divorce then you can file the papers yourself.

If you need help or are in danger contact a womens shelter. They'll have good advice.

Depending on where you live you may have 211 service on your phone for help with your options for public assitance or legal aid.

Good luck.

file a restraining order, but talk to the courts about having him charged with abandonment.

Try going thru legal aid, and if nothing else slap him with abandonment, you should be able to get help.
