i can feel the gear kick in through the 4x4 shift stick , but the four wheel drive does not engage! i was wondering if here is a sensor or a vacum line that controls this and if so how can i fix this problem? thanks.

The 4WD hubs are vacuum engaged, so check for a missing, loose, or broken vacuum line.
