My minster has gone off about horoscopes saying how he hopes we aren't looking at them and how bad they are and stuff, from the Christian perspective, why are they bad? I thought it might be because you are putting faith in them rather then just God, but, most of the time I read the Yahoo! one, I feel like I'm reading a fortune cookie.

A commandment in Law of Moses forbids both the practice of Divination (fortune telling) and the practice of magic (Leviticus 19:26-28; Leviticus 19:31; Leviticus 20:6; Deuteronomy 18:9-14).

The prophets Jeremiah (Jer.10:2), Daniel (Daniel 1:20; 2:27; 4:7; 5:7) and Isaiah (Isaiah 47:13) said that consulting the lifeless stars for advice was useless, when one could ask the living God instead.

There is nothing in the New Testament that specifically forbids astrology, but the book of Acts (Acts 8:11) and the Book of Revelations (Rev. 21:8 & 22:15) forbids the practice of magic.

Actually, from a Christian perspective, even the fortune cookie is of questionable status. The Bible clearly rebukes any use of any divination tool, regardless of the seriousness or joviality of the person using it.

Many of the Christian martyrs were offered a chance to live if they would, just ONCE, place a single pinch of incense before a statue of a pagan god, even if they openly and plainly denied the deity the statue represents. Instead of even having the appearance of participating in occult or pagan practices, they died.

Just some thoughts from an atheist.

There are verses that talk about astrology.
It is old testament but this is why they don't like astrology.
Deu 4:19 "And beware, lest you lift up your eyes to heaven and see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of heaven, and be drawn away and worship them and serve them, those which the LORD your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven.

It is a warning from God to the people.

Many"profess" Christians have read in the bible how JEHOVAH(God's name according to Ps83:18) feels about spiritism and spiritistic practices.HE specifically said for his people to abstain from anything dealing with spiristic practices. Leviticus20:6,7 says"And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits, and after wizards,to go a whoring after them , I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off among his people, Sanctify yourselfs therefore, and do them:I am the Lord your God.(according to d KJV) So a wizard is one who is a professional forteller,so why do so many read horoscope. At my school, if d student don't get there horoscope, they'll go crazy. Many often disown this scripture by looking at man to help tell them know how their day will be like.Rather Jehovah tells the whole mankind wat is held out for those who obey him and know him(JOHN17:3),(PS:37:9,10,11).... Also, many say that they do it for fun buttt, if that so u r actually being 1 of persons described at 2TIMOTHY:3:4 which talks about people being "lovers of pleasure rather than GOD", so please don't blind ur eyes to WAT LEVITICUS SAYS, remember Satan is deceitful, he has many tricks and he CAN DISCUISE SPIRITISM INTO ANYTHINGS, INCLUDING Horoscope.

Somewhere in the Bible, we are cautioned against fortune tellers, soothsayers, attempts to contact the dead, etc. and indicates we could perhaps summon demons- I personally feel horoscopes and fortune cookies are harmless- they are so general, and not so very accurate-

It's because you shouldn't put your faith in it. If you are putting your faith in it, you end up taking it seriously. You worship it. "Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." Leave it alone, you are supposed to avoid temptation. "Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil." Any power not from God is from the enemy.

Even the enemy believes in the existence of God and of Christ. The enemy doesn't worship Heavenly Father, though. He rebels against Him.
