I am 5'1" and just under 8 st, size 8 (uK) and not overweight but have a few areas with a little too much extra flab that I would love to tone up, mainly my butt and thighs and upper arms. What is the most effective exercise to tone these areas up?

I had the same problem with myself. My thighs were fat but the rest of my body was okay, and I wasn't necessarily overweight.

Try lunges and squats to focus on your thighs and butt, or running up and down the stairs.

Even though you may be toning up the muscles there, your thighs and butt will only get bigger and heavier because of the msucle development. Fat and energy will be sent there so they can be burned.

What I do now is that I do full body workouts, like walking, jogging, running, or swimming. Those are better for you and don't overexcercise your thighs/butt.

Hope this helps!

Squats is the best....and if u have dumbells then they'll work quicker.

Also if you take a stride orward, with dumbells in hand, and bend down into each step so ur knee almost touches the floor then that should work too - I usually do 5 on way then 5 back, before having a breather and repeating about 3 more times - u'll feel sore though I warn you LOL!

Oooh and dumbells are of course great if you do want to work on your arms!
Good luck x

For thighs and butt you need to do some sort of squat excercise. Do leg presses, squats, leg extension + flexions. If you don't have weightlifting equipment you can go running(at least a mile or 10 min.), do lunges, Squat jumps ( you can hold something to your chest to add weight to this).
For arms dumbells would be best for stuff like dumbell presses, curls, maybe lat pulls. Pull ups, Push ups etc. make sure you force yourself to complete all of your sets.
Basically weightlifting is best for toning.

First of all nothing comes easy, so start doing squats or you can try swimming, in the latter case you can see the whole body toning well

When we lose weight, there is no way to specifically burn fat from one part of the body. Doing situps won't burn the fat that is covering your abs and doing tricep extensions won't get rid of the fat that is covering your triceps. The only thing you can do is lose weight all around and eventually the problem area will also improve. For more information on toning up, visit http://straighthealth.com

lie on the floor with both you feet on a chair, Then push upwards untill you are into a plank with the majority of your weight resting on you elbows. Hold for two and come back down to the floor. Do three sets of thirty.

Put one foot just above your ankle of the opposite leg and bend, hold for 2 and come back up. Do three sets of thirty.

lie on your back and put your wieght on your elbows, then push upwards into a plank. hold for ten and come back down. Repeat three times.

Doing these excersizes three-four times a week will tone you up pretty quick!
