Well, we'd need to know where you're going camping, what the wheather would be like, how long, etc. to give really detailed info on what to bring, but I am also an adult who has started camping in the past few years and I've found the sites below to be very helpful in figuring out what to pack for whatever kind of trip I'm going on.
Hope they help you too.
Oh, and I agree with the other poster about the first aid kit... in my book you should also have an emergency kit (mine has a whistle, compass, waterproof matches, solar powered cell phone charger, etc.). You need to be prepared, just in case. ;)

There is a very good online of camping folks at The Lightweight Backpacker. Find the forums there. This place covers a lot lot lot of outdoor topics.
They have good wisdom to share, especially about safety. And depending on distance from your car, how far you have to carry your gear to get to your campsite, you will benefit from the lightweight topics.
Most of the people there are purists and simplistic campers. They want their gear to be high quality for what it is, but also plenty of makeshift gear, low tech, or repurposed household items that make good gear (such as putting spices in a drinking straw, then tape shut). They aren't gear snobs, they just know their stuff and want a safe and solid experience out there. There is a wide variety of opinion on things but it is a respectful group who is pretty budget conscious. What makes them really simplistic though is this isn't your crowd who tries to bring everything from the city (or a smaller version of it) into the woods. They know how to be uncomfortably comfortable? They won't have any way to tell you how to hook up your tv to a battery because they won't see the point...
So anyway, here is the link.

One thing to keep in mind from me personally, is to use what you have, rather than investing in anything, esp if you know this won't be a thing you do often. If you have big and bulky gear, you can make a couple trips until you have everything in camp that you need. And you can always pack in the things you KNOW you will need, and hike back each morning according to what the day's plans and weather are.
Remember to have raingear, solid footware, and trash bags. This is not only to keep up with your garbage (which you secure properly at night so you don't draw bugs and animals) but you can also use it to store gear, and to waterproof things if it rains. Lots of garbage bags, plastic grocery sacks, etc. If you aren't in areas with a trail, make sure you know how to get around. And a first aid kit. Very important.

Rather than list every conceivable thing you might need you might search (tent camping essentials ) and a lot of sites will come up with recommendations from where you can make a list. I did and a lot of sites came up that looked like they would be helpful. Don't forget a first aid kit just in case it isn't mentioned...Good Luck...
