You can tell by the smell and color. The good chickens usually have a yellow skin. Those are the good ones. It has more flavor than the ones who have a pink white skin. The size doesn't matter. If you are buying parts of the chicken separately, the ones that come in packets, will usually have a pinkish skin. That's good.

You mean completely cooked..?
No pink in the breast is the best way to tell with breasts. If you are using legs or thighs with bones the meat should be easily coming off the bone.
If you are using a full chicken, the breast should not be pink and the legs should move freely from the bird.
As a rule I always tend to cook my chicken a little longer than when I think it is done as if you would too if you have ever been sick from undercooked chicken!!!
I'd prefer to have my chicken on the dry side then be stuck on the lou for days on end!
If you mean is uncooked chicken still useable?
You will be able to tell by the smell, and it shouldn't be slimy or filmy.

It depends on what you mean by good. Is it good as in eating or is it good that you are not sure if it is going off. If its going off it will smell.

Does it smell sweet? If it does, I wouldn't eat it. --- big assumption here ... I assumed you are talking about raw chicken.
