plenty of commercials about speeding,but none to show idiots the way to cross a road properly. why not?

Because they've wasted their money on speed cams. They don't give a toss about road safety, just generating income from the cams.

Possibly because David Frost and his colleauges have used up all the budget unsuccessfuly campaigning about mobile-phone use.
In the meantime; more squashed kids....makes you "Think" doesn't it?
Edit: Just saw the bit about the singing hedgehogs. Now there's an animal with a death-wish if ever there was one!

the commercials with regards the green cross code and other warnings etc are usually aired on the independant stations during the late/early hours of the night ...... ie..... 3am..........5am.which i have argued with the tv many times when watching tv. seemingly the independant stations have to air public warning transmissions but there are no limitations or rules at what times they have to do it. to put them over the air at the times they do they are not breaking the law/rules..... but how many children are watching tv at that time in the morning? exactly none.....

There were hedgehogs, but they've vanished now. I know what you mean.

there is a section called public information films.
They may have the old ones.
