She might be ill. I have a cockateil and when i got her i looked up information about diseases and one of the most common signs is sitting on the floor of it's cage. Since birds also live in the wild it's their instinct to not show many signs of illness until the last day or so. If i were you i would take her to the vet. If the vet says there is nothing wrong with her, leave her alone for about two days so she gets familier with her surroundings, then try temping her with Avi Cakes. They are my birds favorite treat and she will drop whatever she's doing for them. Put some next to her so she will try them. If she likes them (and i'm sure she will) Give her one a day and everyday move it up a little higher than it was the day before. Also if you don't have any yet, buy her some toys. I suggest something with a bell. also try a mirror. And keep tempting her with millet. If you want to be able to pick her up, you have to make sure she trusts you first. Everyday for about two weeks, spend half an hour reading or knitting next to your bird and make sure there are loud noises or distractions. After your bird gets used to you. try putting your hand in her cage but don't try to pet her just yet. leave your hand in her cage for about a minute, then take it out. everyday, do the same thing and move your hand a little closer each day. when you are alsmost close enough to tough her, use a treat (as i said earlier, i suggest Avi Cakes) to tempt her on your hand. don't be discouraged if she doesn't go on your hand right away. Try the same thing everyday. if she doesn't step on you hand by herself, GENTLY try to pick her up by moving both hands toward her and GENTLY scoop her up on both sides. If she still won't trust you after doing this everyday, try to leave her cage door open so she can come out of her cage hersef (I'm assuming her wings are clipped, if they're not, you should get them clipped at the vet.) It takes a LONG time to gain a birds trust but it is also worth it(Trust me, I know.) Hope this helps! It worked for my cockateil, and i hope it will work for your parakeet. ( OH, and you could buy avi cakes at petco or on amazon it's cheaper. I'm Just going to warn you that they ARE expensive, but they are worth it : )

Not a good sign. You need to take her back to where you got her from and get a healthy bird. Your birdie is sick and might just pass. It is better to just take her back and get another.

May I recommend you find a breeder and buy a young bird that you can hand train. They will become your best friend and actually enjoy human contact. Big difference in a bird that is totally afraid and needs to be conditioned and an already accustomed. Look in the local newspaper and ask at pet shops if they can recommend one. Yes, they sell birds, but they can also provide with breeders. You just promise to be a supply customer so they can get their money from you for years to come.

Also buy a book on parakeets and read before you buy a bird.

have fun and I wish you good luck

it rather is consumer-friendly for a clean chook. the recent ecosystem, new toys, new cage, new residing house, new human beings etc etc could be overwhelming. you're able to remember, that each physique of those new issues prefer to consume IT! (a minimum of that's what it thinks). :) only make advantageous that is cage is in a quiet place removed from any residing house windows and severe site visitors paths on your place. and attempt to reproduction the puppy keep atmosphere as much as available till it gets familiar with that is new residing house. featuring making advantageous that it has a lot of nutrition (a similar subject the puppy keep became feeding it) and water. additionally, if the puppy keep wasn't masking the cage at night, i would not propose that the two. After it gets used to you and that is new residing house you could start to restoration that is nutrition plan, initiate masking the cage at night (in case you want) and supply it a bunch of latest cool toys. having stated that, i might nevertheless propose which you schedule a vet flow to. The indicators which you describe (no longer ingesting and cowering interior the cage) are additionally means indicators of disease. in lots of instances the stress of adjusting residences is sufficient to deliver a latent disease to the floor. it rather is why it rather is many times substantial to get a clean chook regarded at on the vet once you first purchase it (then frequently after that). This preliminary base line verify-up provide you convenience and it rather is going to be efficient on your vet for all destiny visits. solid luck and that i desire all is definitely.

If she is eating and drinking she'll be alright ....did you ask the pet store if her wings are clipped...if so then this is the reason she can't get on her perch....make sure you have something for her to climb on to get up there ....my female parakeet that I bought a couple days ago did the same thing....I gently lifted her and put her on the perch...she didnt want me to touch her at first....however I just kept easing my finger up along her lower stomach to her chest lifting and she hopped on my finger....but I know she did it because of her clipped wings...I had bought a parakeet a few days before from the same pet store...in the same case and his wings are not clipped...I wasnt worried though due to the fact that I have had parakeets all my life....she should be ok....

Ok, walking on the grate of their cage is a sign of sickness. Also check for loose stool, no or little eating, discharge from nose or eyes, and plucking of feathers. I would have her checked asap. Also, try and hand train her so she trusts you. Put your hand in the cage for a little while each day. Talk to her softly, and just let your hand sit there. After a while, try bringing your hand closer...after a day or two, bring it a little closer....She might get comfortable enough to where she will get on it if she feels safe. It will take time, but you want to hand train her before you do anything else. Remember, this will take a lot of time and paitence.

Get advice from a vet. Birds will naturally perch in the highest place possible. If she is sitting lower down, it can be a sign that she is ill.

My Mom just got 2 birds about 3 weeks ago. It only took a couple of days for them to be used to their new home. Your bird is either ill or lonely. You might want to buy a bird mirror, so she thinks there's another bird with her. It might help.
