Is there convalescent leave from Marine bootcamp? If so, if it's within your first 180 days can you opt not to return by notifying your recruiter via letter?

convalescent leave is when you have an injury that requires you to heal and your regular duties with get in the way and the doctor recommends you to go on "leave" Now the recruiter letter thing highly unlikely especially in the marines but ask several marine recruiters, but they will be like HUh????? and call you names maybe. Your best bet would be to go back and before that 180 days you try to claim " failure to adapt" (MOST PEOPLE WILL HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THAT MEANS) With in the first 180 days it is an easy admin discharge once you go after 180 days there is more paperwork issues. If you leave before 180 think you are also waiving any VA benefits, GI Bill and etc. You should pop in on your base legal office for more details. Your chain of command may have their own answers but they arent the legal office, and lawyers. A College degree in Business has nothing to do with law. and nothing to do with how you heal,, they have no clue. If your legal office cant give you specifics or they are too lazy too, try someone in personnel who handles this stuff all the time, the 180 days thing isn't widely know but i have heard of it.
You may also want to try the IG Office or take your contract to a civilian lawyer(wont be free) and have them review it..
remember 98% of your chain of command wants you to stay in and they think they know whats best, there is some truth to staying in . and they will make it as difficult as they can to get out that is normal. but its your life GOOD LUCK

there is convalescent leave from boot camp. it's not something they just give to anyone who asks. "uh i think i have the flu can i go on convalescent leave" what your looking for is a faluire to adapt discharge from the military which is avalible to you within the first 180 days of service but it's not something your recruiter can arange for and certianly not somthing done by letter. you would have to talk to a jag and find out the details since you are on here i'm guessing you are not in boot camp yet so you might want to talk to the meps commander. on a more important note don't do it just serve your time that you agreed to and you will be a better person for it.

JB you can recieve a convalescent leave to recover from any injury, however, if you do not want to be considered AWOL you must be mustered out of your obligation. Your recruiter has nothing to do with and does not have the power to make any decisions on your obligation.
YOU do not have a choice to OPT OUT, unless and until the military you have joined offers you a discharge.

If you got hurt and truly want convalescent leave - that's one thing
but if you want out? then you go see someone in charge now . . . because the USMC only takes the best and a USMC only wants the best watching his back - ALSO . . . when you go back to boot camp you start from the beginning, it's about camaraderie - and they don't want someone who had to go home for "convalescent leave" to ballet dance back into the boot-camp barracks and pretend he is part of that unit - it don't cut it.
Why did you bother to sign up in the first place? It's only 13 weeks? Are you even in boot-camp yet? If not, join the Peace Corps. and thank GOD for your Country and countrymen/women.

no. once you have shipped to Boot, your recruiter is no longer your POC. you must return to Boot camp once your convalescent leave is done with. The only way you;d be able to get out is the iinjury you sustained that got your the CL in the first place does not heal properly.

convelescent leave is break given to soldier for some reason for free whether they are injured or something. Doesnt mean you can get out of something you have already started getting paid for. Why?? I dont understand why PEOPLE try to opt out of contracts. Do you mean to tell me you are scared now? It is your responsiblity to fullfill you obligations to the intent of the Government contract you signed. If you had problems or questions before the contract, you should of asked or did your research way before your consideration........

Peace out.........Thank you for your service.
