The very premise of monotheism is that the creator is not only the creator, but also the no.1 big boss in the universe. And why? Because he himself says so and he is the creator, right? My question is what if one fine day the creator himself started telling us that, well, I am the creator and so far I have been assuming the position of biggest boss of the universe, but for some reasons only my omnicient mind can conceive, and clearly not explainable to you humans, I have decided to step down and appoint someone called so and so in my previous position, even though he is not the creator. Then what will happen to monotheism? Will you refuse to listen to what your creator says? Or will you obey him?

Ok, I didn't say God will quit being the creator ( and the maintainer) of the universe, he will continue to be so, just that there will be someone else somehow above him ( for reasons only he or the likes of him can understand), then?

To Julian: Things that came out of some other things, which in turn may have came out of still some other things, and an endless unknown cycle? This doesn't really sound like monotheism, and I may have gotten it a bit wrong but I think you may have gotten 'causation' a bit confused.

If He said it to me personally, I'd be a bit surprised, but seeing as I don't do much in the way of obeying God now (even though I believe in Him) I probably wouldn't fall to my knees at the new guy and pledge my service.

What would be great is if I was the new God. it'd be like that Jim Carrey film, only it wouldn't suck.

No. You have monotheism a little bit wrong. It's not so much one being in the universe, more like one principle of causation in the universe. The term emanation is a term that means "that which flows out from the primordial center (i.e. God)." The reason that God is the "biggest boss" is because creation flows outwards from it. So rather than him administering his superiority over creation, it is rather the fact that creation came from it. The origin of all things is by definition superior to anything that flows from it. Otherwise the caused thing wouldn't be able to come into existence.

Your confusion comes in the form of two conflicting thoughts: God, and Godhead. God is associated with Nature, Goodness, Creator, whereas Godhead is the supreme principle of God.

So your obvious question is, who created God, or the Godhead?

You can answer that in this manner: If anything created God, that thing would be by definition superior to God and of greater antiquity, so that thing would be God. It is an endless cycle, which all we can do is point to that cycle and say "that thing (which isn't really a thing) is the unknown principle of life." Unknown because no one can know who created it, because the knower can never be known by the objects of knowledge, unless we become the knower. So we, as the objects, can never know the creating Subject (God) which holds us as those objects. In other words, we are mortals trying to comprehend immortal realms. The only way this is possible is through dissimilation of the states of consciousness and direct realization that all things flow from the infinite godhead, therefore all things are of the nature of God (the soul).

The existence of the universe says nothing about God. The idea of monotheism means there is nobody else to appoint. So you are asking if God can quit his job. If God quit work what would happen? would everything cease to exist? would it all return to chaos. One version of God holds that God is the motivating force that keeps the cosmos ordered. Funny question. It deserves thought.

If God told me to say worship a ...{insert whatever here} I probably wouldn't but thats just me.
The biggest proof of Monotheism is the fact that there is only one creation. Nothing is foreign in the universe, it all fits together somehow.

I don't think it works like that.....The God I believe in is not one that converses back, necessarily. I think He is the energy of All and our journey here is part of the process.....but, if ever we had conversations like this, I guess I would listen and still live the best life I could.
