My hair is really breaking, everytime I comb or brush my hair it just seems to be falling out, but not in clumps. I wash my hair 2 to 3 times a week, am I washing it too much? Do I need to condition it more, because I haven't, I've just been using shampoo.

First, washing your hair 2 to 3 times a week is too much for African Americans. This dries out the hair. This is prolly one of the reasons for the breakage. We should wash 1 to 2 times in a two week period. Make sure your ends are trimmed every six to eight weeks. Deep condition, deep condition, and more deep condition. Wrap your hair at night and if u can put a light grease to scalp. It can be sparingly throughout hair. It don't have to be greasy. Just enough for moisture and conditioning. The products i use are mizani and motions. The best deep conditioner is mizani. It costs about 20bucks but it last. If u do this, your hair will have less breakage in two weeks!!

You're not washing too much. I wash my hair every day and don't have that problem. Your hair could be brittle because you don't condition it. Try deep conditioning it twice a week (slather on the conditioner, wait 3-5 minutes, then rinse). Look for shampoo and conditioner formulas that are meant to strengthen brittle hair. Spritzing on a leave-in conditioner on your hair on the non-dep-conditioning days can help smooth it out. Also, do you pull your hair back a lot, or do you use heated hair applianes (curling irons, etc.) a lot? All of those things can make your hair more brittle and vulnerable to breaking. If that's the case, skip the iron and ponytails a few times a week; putting less stress on your hair will leave it less vulnerable to breaking. If you try these things for a few weeks and it still doesn't help, see your doctor. There could be something else going on that can't be fixed just by changing your hair care routine.

You definitely need conditioner every single time. It helps put moisture into the hair shaft. Try doing a deep conditioning to help it right now and if your hair is naturally curly then washing your hair with just conditioner - no shampoo. It won't be greasy. Brush it only when it is dry and usually only just before you wash it.

Maybe you need to start combing it less and using conditioner everyday, not as in shampoo and condition, just use a rinse our moisturizing conditioner instead of shampoo, it'll condition and moisturize your hair. And after you rinse make sure you use something to seal in the moisture like oil a water based cream lotion.. something just as long as it isn't grease...I don't use hair grease or anything with petroluem or mineral oil in it, I use water based oil lotions and I keep my scalp clean. I wash my hair 2x a week in the summer and once a week in the winter. I wear a fitted satin cap on my hair at night and under hats whenever I go outside. I spray my hair every night with a liquid leave in conditioner mixed with water ann I do conditioner washes every other night. About a year ago I nearly shaved my head due to a bad relaxer and a botched dye... now my hair is silky and past my shoulders... a little longer than bra strap length. I also take vitimins for hair and I take biotin and vitimin e everyday. My favorite hair products are honey, olive oil, almond oil, rosemary oil, jojoba oil, Creme of Nature shampoo, Un-Damaged Goods conditioners, 911 leave in conditioner, Soft Sheen protein reconstructor (that I use every week and a half), Profective hair lotions, and Hollywood Beauty oils and hair creams. I also have to have Organics olive oil.

Try the new Herbal Essance line of products. They have a shampoo that is called the Break Up or something like that. These shampoos are formulated to help your hair. But using conditioner will help your hair a lot too. But only use a quarter size amount. It will help when you are brushing your hair. Best of Luck!

If you sleep on cotton pillow cases, change to silk or satin. The cotton pillowcases dries out your hair. The fibers is ruff on your hair. Try a conditioner named Hair Mayonnaise by Root Stimulator. I have had wonderful results. This is only for black hair. Change the brush you use to 100% boar bristles.
