Consumption of MB alloted or provided by the service provider depends upon the size of the mail uploaded or downloaded.
each time a message is down loaded or uploaded ,KB or MB is consumed in proportion with the size of the message.
size of mails vary from 2KB to 2 MB or more .
mails with lot of pictorial data will need more KB or MB,where as text matters consume less of KB or MB.

If you are asking about the MB usage upon your Internet connection is concerned.
It depends on the mail service you are using(ex., yahoo, gmail, etc). The more ads & pictures you get on your emails & the pages your browser(Internet explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc..) loads, more MB is downloaded into your computer(inside the Temporary Internet Files/Temp Folder). It depends on the mails you get on your e-mail.
