Boy is someone messing with your mind. You do not have to be a tithe paying member of a church to ask for help. A true body of believers (i.e., Church) would never turn a person in need away simply because they do not attend that church or paid tithes. Of course because we live in a society where people take advantage of our charity we may have to turn some away if they do not accept how we help them. For example, if a person states that they need food and ask for money, we normally would take them to buy the groceries. If they decide they do not want us to do that you can bet they are frauds. We do have to be good stewards of what God gives us and use common sense. So I am not sure what situation you were in when you sought help. But charity and love is part of our spirit so I would say try another Church and stay away from that one if this was your experience.

Depends on the church. The church I belong to gives money to all who ask. There is a council that reviews each case, prays about each case and then makes a decision. If the person making the request has other means of recieving this money, the church will help them to accomplish this as well. Sometimes helping someone to help themself, is the best help one can give.
We are all to be good stewards of Gods money, we are commanded to give freely, however we are also commanded to not be foolish with that which God entrusts to us.

Christ died for HIS Church.
The Church of Christ helps All who need help.
We become members of Christ's church, followers of only Christ's teachings , and the disciples were called Christians first at Antioch.
We are to lay by in store what we have been prospered, give cheerfully, be kind to strangers (Hebrews 13:2).
Any so called "church" that teaches anything other than what Jesus taught his disciples to preached is false Galatians 1:8.

try the Methodists.

seriously, they are really into helping people no matter what their affiliation is, and depending on the church may have access to more money than some of the other churches, because they don't tend to be flashy but have a lot of members. might be worth a shot anyway!

good luck!

Tithing is an argument that many Christians war with. in many church homes tithing is over-emphasised. on a similar time, many Christians refuse to place as much as the Biblical exhortation relating to creating selections to the Lord. Tithing / giving is meant to be a excitement, a blessing. regrettably, that may not the case in the church in the present day. Tithing is an previous testomony theory. The tithe replaced right into a call for of the regulation wherein all Israelites have been to supply 10% of each and every little thing they earned and grew to the Tabernacle / Temple (Leviticus 27:30; Numbers 18:26; Deuteronomy 14:24; 2 Chronicles 31:5). some understand the previous testomony tithe as a manner of taxation to supply for the desires of the monks and Levites of the sacrificial equipment. the hot testomony nowhere instructions, or maybe recommends that Christians positioned as much as a legalistic tithe equipment. Paul states that believers could set aside a element of their income with the intention to assist the church (a million Corinthians sixteen:a million-2). the hot testomony nowhere assigns a undeniable share of income to set aside, yet basically says it fairly is to be “in line along with his income” (a million Corinthians sixteen:2). The Christian church has fairly taken the ten% parent from the previous testomony tithe and utilized it as a “cautioned minimum” for Christians of their giving. in spite of the certainty that the hot testomony would not become attentive to a undeniable quantity or share to supply, it does communicate concerning to the significance and advantages of giving. they could provide as they're able, “in line along with his income.” especially cases which skill giving extra advantageous than a tithe, sometime that would propose giving decrease than a tithe. it incredibly relies upon on the skill of the Christian and the desires of the church. each and every Christian could diligently pray and seek for God’s expertise to no count if to take part in tithing and/or for the way lots he or she could provide (James a million:5). “each and every guy could provide what he has desperate in his heart to supply, no longer reluctantly or decrease than compulsion, for God loves a pleased giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7).

I don't know what church you go to, but any church that puts money ahead of the person is probably not the best church to be going to. Serving God is about the people, not about the money.

Boy, have YOU been calling the wrong church! TRUE churches will help those in need BECAUSE they are in need, not because they can afford to pay some kind of dues. GOOD COW, buddy, if you could afford to tithe, you wouldn't need emergency aid. You'd have insurance!

That may be true in your Church but the one I attend will help anyone in the community with food or other helps. You did not state what kind of help you needed so it would not be fair to speak on behalf of your Church and what the reasoning is behind that decision.

Probably to stop people from outside the church from taking all their money. Which goes against Jesus' directive to "give to anyone who asks of you."

Try the Red Cross if you need help! They're pretty good about it.
