I was getting a root canal and the dentist kept pushing my tongue so hard she cut off my air and was choking me. I would reflexively gag and jolt and she was pissed at me for being fidgety. She thought I was just trying to swallow or move my tongue, but I was literally choking for air. Has this happened to anyone else?

When something like that happends, deffintly stop the Dentist and tell them what problems you are having. If she was a good dentist she should try to keep you as comfortable as possible. BUT do keep in mind that she doesnt know how you feel and it is good to make a noise or do something to stop them and tell them they are hurting you.

From what you've written it appears that the dentist was not aware that you were having difficulty breathing... my question to you is: why didn't you speak up and tell her?? I'm sure if you did, she would have found some other way to get her job done and have you be comfortable at the same time. Always keep in mind that it is your body. Healthcare workers are not mindreaders, you have to speak up if something is bothering you.
